King Advisory Program

Our Mission
"To challenge the minds
and nurture the hearts
of our students."

King's Advisory Classes (period 8 on your child's schedule) is a vital part of fulfilling our school's mission. Via the study hall periods (Tues and Thurs) and the guidance period (Wed), the Advisory class addresses both the mind and hearts of our students. (Schedule of guidance days may vary due to assemblies on Wednesdays.)Through study hall, students are encouraged and supported to achieve in their academic classes. Through the Advisory classes, our student's personal and social development is nurtured and reinforced. Emphasis is on continuing to "live the 5Rs" with the "7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" for our 7th grade students and "6 Most Important Decisions" for our 8th grade students. Advisory teachers use videos, class discussions, workbooks and activities to convey the weekly lesson and topic. Students are encouraged to reflect upon their own behaviors, attitudes and their role in building a positive school for themselves and others.

Parents can support our Advisory program and the development of their child by talking with their son or daughter about the week's topic. Ask to explain to you what they learned. Share your thoughts, experiences, and stories about the topic. Let them know that you support these lessons and encourage their practice in your home and family.

7th Grade: Habit #6 Synergize: "Aloha is Synergy"
-Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create a better solution than either could alone.
Aloha is more than a word of greeting or farewell or a salutation.
Aloha means mutual regard and affection and extends warmth in caring with no obligation in return.
Aloha is the essence of relationships in which each person is important to every other person for collective existence.
Aloha means to hear what is not said, to see what cannot be seen and to know the unknowable.
Synergy is Aloha. Aloha is synergy
Live Aloha . . . It is a choice we have in every moment, with every person we meet.

8th Grade: Decision 5: Addictions - "Dreams"

2. It’s not just about you
3. Drugs destroy dreams
